About the Fotogelafer

Welcome to Fotogelafer.com. I am Wan Cheng Huat AKA the Fotogelafer. Here is a short write up about how photography came into my life.

All my life, I can say that I have always been attuned with art. When I was much younger, I loved to draw. How did I know that? Well, I never could stop picking up a pen or a pencil to start imprinting what I saw. Drawing became a part of my life. As years pass me by, I soon realized that my ‘addiction’ actually soothes me, my feelings, my emotions and most of all my soul.

When I turned 16, I decided to join my school’s photography club and loved it almost instantly. Photography, in many ways, was and still is similar with drawing; instead of capturing images with my pen or pencil, I am now able to capture them with my camera.

I was overwhelmed with enthusiasm and learnt all I could from wherever I could. I remember reading through all the Reader's Digest I could get to obtain photography tips which were usually the advertisements of Kodak or Canon or Fujifilm. At that time, it was my only source where I could learn about shutter speed, aperture settings and how to play around to get my intended effects. Even now, after over 10 years, I still keep those files which still have those Reader's Digest pages.

I could remember the moment when I first picked up a camera; I knew that there was no turning back. Cameras and films were my new tools to express my new found identity.

But as time pass, technology became more advance and soon enough photography became digital. Only after 10 years, I finally abandon film photography; as it became more and more expensive and obsolete. However, I will cherish all those negatives which are now lying in my dry box. Nothing can replace them.

Enjoy my photographs.

05.07.2009 - We Ate for Charity II but I Shot for Charity

Today my day was packed at Subang Parade. Although I was not the official photographer, I did offered my help doing some charity work for the Children's Wish Society of Malaysia "We Ate for Charity II" event, it is something I can do to help out; well at least in terms of capturing the moments for them. They gladly accepted and gave me a Volunteer sticker to put on.So here are a few images I wish to share. Enjoy :D
YB Hannah Yeoh was also there to show support this cause. The crowd started to build up as more and more people came to have a feast.Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, the president of CWS Malaysia, is give a speech to create awareness and support for this cause. Sadly, I don't think anyone was listening. Most of the people's mind were fixated with the durians; its like there was some kind of 'durian' hypnotic force on the people.Beep! Beep! Here comes the durians.Volunteers packing the mangosteens and rambutans."I just did my shopping at Subang Parade" :DNow is that enough durian?I don't think so, let's add a few more basket.
I wonder how it tasted? It has been too long since my last mangosteen :(Behind the scene volunteers. Working hard to bring down the durians. I would have help out if they gave me a t-shirt :D
Very helpful security guard.Me with durians. Tonnes of durians. The durian openers :D"I am the first"How can someone not love durians?Cheers :DBack to durian feasting. My friends :D Fung Keat, Vivian (Fung Keat's colleague) and Kian Ming enjoying the durians.New technique, its called the Key OpenerThis uncle used his bare hands to open the durian. An he successfully did it. Awesome.A really BIG BITERambutans anyone?Sharing, Joy, Gratitude, Love, Happiness.
Press time for the President. Almost closing time. One thing I like to mention here. There are some people who attended the charity event some how forgotten about the true cause of this event. There were some folks who actually ask for a REFUND, just because they did not get to have a taste of the durians. Ermm, excuse me to whom ever you are, I donated my RM10 without eating any too. I did not even took the free water given to the volunteers or even had the free T-shirt as volunteer. For heaven sakes, its for a good cause. Its CHARITY.
