Wedding Day - Eddie & Uma

This wedding was held in Johor Bahru. A union love story of a JB guy with a KL gal. From the little chat I had with the bride, I got to know how much they gone through to be together. Such a wonderful story.

The wedding ceremony was held at The Church of the Immaculate Conception. It was beautiful inside. It was even more beautiful when the new bride was with her new groom. United at last.

With just 3 hours, I rushed back to the hotel to start with the slideshow rendering. Hope on a taxi and we were off. I was lucky I am in JB and the taxi here are really aggressively fast to get you to one spot. Managed to finish up the slideshow in just below 2 hours without any edits. Enjoy the slideshow.

Wedding Day - Victor & Lee Ling

This wedding is by far with the biggest group of hengdais and jimuis. Up to 15 cars made up the convoy; comprising of Vellfires, Lexus, Mercedes and BMWs.

Every moment was a happy fun moment with this crazy bunch of guys. Groom was very sporting and entertaining. The girls were equally as responsive. If only every morning sessions were such fun :)

Its not as it seems.

ROM and Wedding reception took place at the Cyberview Lodge Resort. Was a very nice place with a lot of beautiful façades, great for photoshoots.

Although it did rain a little, it did not dampen the happy atmosphere of the celebration.

Overall, a very beautiful event to be remembered. Congratulations to Victor and Lee Ling :)

Very excited with Lawrence and Sarah's wedding date. Much has been done and a lot could not be shared until the wedding day has pass. One of the biggest wedding we are covering this year. Almost 90 tables.

For their ROM, we tried something experimental. Trying to incorporate more video into our photo slideshows. Instead of just boring transitions, we are thinking of new creative ways to spice things up for the dinner guests.

Rabbit Coming, Tiger Going

Its already middle of January. The end of the Tiger year is bring some last minute fortune. Quite exhausted with covering 4 events and 2 side projects for Wediogelafer Dot Com but all is still good.

Emails have been pouring in from all over asking for FDC packages. Its looks a good sign for this year. Really hoping to secure more bookings before the Chinese new year. Bookings are always good. The clients and potentials are also a friendly bunch. Another bonus is that I just realised that I was able to make quite a number of good friends from these friendly bunch of people. We can never go wrong with making more friends.

Anyway, today will be one of the rare Saturdays I can sit back and enjoy a nice regular Chocolate Ice Blended at Coffee Bean. Cheers to that :)

What a way to start the 2011 fotogelafer year. 13th January 2011, I was at Malacca shooting for MSD Annual Dinner and Dance. Shooting pirates and pareos. Lovely hotel to be at; wish I more time to wander around but by the time I was done, it was almost 12am. Had to make my way back that night itself.

And on the 14th January 2011, I was surrounded by wizards, warlocks, witches and magical elements of Hogwart. I was covering for Kraft Foods Dinner and Dance. It was one of the more magical D&D I have attended. Very nice way for me to start the 2011.

What does our investment include?
Mainly you will get 2 crazy and trigger-happy photographers, DVDs filled captured memories (1000-1200 photographs) and a 3-5 minute slideshow. Sometimes, you may just get a little bit more than the above.

What gears do you guys have in your bags?
Tuck nicely in our bags are Canon EOS 5D Mark II, EF 24-70mm f/2.8, EF 50mm f/1.4, EF 70-200mm f/2.8 and Nikon D700 with exactly the same set of lenses from the Nikkor range. Not forgetting our Speedlite 580 EX II and Nikon SB800 flashes. Both cameras are from the full frame category.

Do you provide hardcopy prints?
No, we do not provide prints to our clients but we do have contacts to do prints depending on the request.

For the slideshow of the morning session which is to be shown during dinner, can I use my own music?
Most definitely yes, we encourage our clients to choose their special music as this way the slideshow becomes a little more sentimental. We will do our to create a slideshow which will blend in with the music; however we have to keep in mind, that not every song will be able to portray the right moment nicely. Well of course if that happens, we will let you know when it just doesn’t have that ‘oomph’.

How long before we get our digital copies?
On average, 2-3 weeks. However if we are not able to deliver on time, we will notify our clients and ask for some time extension.

Does FDC accept outstation or oversea jobs?
Yes, of course we do. However to keep things simple, we normally let the clients handle our transportation, accommodation and food during the whole course of the shoot.

How do we go about with booking FDC dates?
We will take a 30% deposit upon confirm dates; otherwise, our dates are on first come first serve basis. Make them payable to 'FOTOGELAFER DOT COM'.

Actual Day Wedding - Regis & Joanne SDE

Creating this slideshow was a true challenge of focus and planning. We had only less than 1 hour to complete the slideshow which needs to be put up during the wedding luncheon. Straight after the church ceremony at St. Ignatius Church in Taman Mayang, I flew back to my place which is, according to Google Maps, around 9.8km distance. Took me a good 15 minutes to reach back home.

In an instant, the photographs were already plugged in and download was already on the way. Took almost 10 minutes to transfer close to 1,000 photos from my camera to my workstation. At that time it was already close to 11.25am and I haven't even started choosing the photographs. Once the photographs from my 5DMII finished transferred, I begin downloading the D700 photographs (Liew's Camera). While that was going on, I began selecting the photos.

As I reached 50 photos out of 100 to be selected, I realised that it was already close to 11.35am and I need to be back at the restaurant at 12 noon. Managed to go through 1,000 photos and select 105 photographs. Rendering and burning took another 10 minutes.

At that time I was ready to head back when suddenly ERROR came up the screen. I had to restart my comp, re-pick the selected photographs, insert the selected soundtrack, re-render and re-burn. But this time it got through. Looked at my watch and it was already 12.20pm. Well after all that hassle, I present to you the same day edit actual day wedding slideshow for Regis and Joanne. Enjoy~~!

As of late, FDC has been getting quite a number of inquiries from the Lion City (Singapore). We really hope we can draw more jobs from this lovely island country. Definitely more interesting to earn SGD than RM.

Planning for 400-450 pax Group Photo

As of now, I have managed to come out with 3 scenarios to shoot the group photo of 400-450 pax. As you can see from the sketch I did. The above image is clickable to expand the sketch.

For the worst case scenario I, where I have only chairs to use and that I cannot place anyone to seat on the floor. I will have to arrange the main guys to be seated first. As for the rest, I will have to arrange them according to their heights; from shortest to the tallest. Then from there, I will divide them to 4 smaller clusters.

For the sake of explanation, I have identified them as cluster 1-4. As you will be able to see from the arrangement, I will place cluster 1 on the first standing row but in front. I will start with the tallest in cluster 1. They will move to the middle and as I move towards the shorter subjects, I will place them alternate, 1 to the left and 1 to the right and repeat this till cluster 1 is done.

This is then followed by cluster 3; just right behind cluster 1. The key here is to ensure that the cluster 3 heads alternates in between the cluster 1 heads.

If this works out, I will be able to place 180 pax in the first standing row. I will then have to repeat this for the second row which will be standing on the chair right behind cluster 3.

This scenario will make the group photo really wide and there will be a lot of space on the top and bottom of the picture. If possible, I will not resort to this option.

A better option will be if I am able to place 1 extra row seated in front on the floor. This will bring the number of pax per row down to 75. 75 is still too long and but still will be much better than 90 per row.

The best case which I would love to have will be that I can use the stage to put up another 3 more rows.

I will try to bring this out into the open area as the lighting will be much better and will definitely be lesser room for a mess up. Well lets see how will this turn out to be.

This is the first outing organised by Fotogelafer Dot Com. A total of 6 fotogelafers including me enjoyed a lovely weekend walk around our historical town of Malacca. I can say that this outing really opened our eyes to look at Malacca differently. We saw many things which we never realised before.

We shared many experiences between one another, learning from each other on how to capture certain shots. It was a fun filled day despites a few unfortunate happening.

08.08.09-10.08.09 - Penang Photo Outing

I was in Penang for a revisit. It was quite some time back when I was there roaming the streets. I had Janice and her friend Fannie to accompany me.
This was taken at Anson Road, Penang Island. The food court is situated next to The One Academy Penang Branch. Google that and you will find this place. We had breakfast here. Dim sum from Zim Sum. The food was not bad. It has been too long since my last dim sum breakfast. Back here in PJ, no more 'kaki' for my Sunday breakfast sessions.
Anyway, I was facing the open kitchen and could not resist to capture the atmosphere.

Anyway, we continued our journey to Kek Lok Si. One of the must visit heritage sites of Penang. The main entrance is free but do take note that there are some places in Kek Lok Si which requires some entrance fees, it is just a nominal entrance fee which is charge for the maintenance and restoration of this heritage site.
I have been to this place more than 5 times and still I love shooting here. The pagoda of Kek Lok Si which is visible from quite far away.
I just wished I had more time to just roam around and shoot.

Fotogelafer Got Published! Part 1

This is my first work which got selected to be published. Though SJ Echo may be just a community bulletin, I am very happy as it was circulated with the News Straits Times. Just in case, you guys do not know which photo, I will tell ya :D Its the one on the top left of the newspaper spread. You can view the original shot from here.

However, I am quite disappointed that my name was not mentioned. Well I guess, the name 'fotogelafer' was not acceptable. Probably I will have to submit my REAL name next time.

First time shooting a pre-wedding photography. It was a test session to scout for nice locations. Had a great time with the cute couple, Piew and Jenny. Not forgetting, Yik Hoe and Kian Ming for tagging along and having a great time shooting together. Thanks. Could not have done this without you all.

A bit of outdoor and casual shots. The couple having fun on the roof. Too bad for the haze, if not it would have been a splendid scene.

I went to the Malaysia VS Manchester United 2nd match held in Bukit Jalil Stadium. I brought along my 50D and all my lenses (50mm f.14, 10-22mm and 18-200mm). I wanted to test all the lenses with the low light conditions of a stadium.I was there with Kian Ming. Below are some scenes taken with my lenses, quite a nice place to test my lenses capabilities under low lighting conditions.

Rasa Timur Photo Shooting

These are some of my test shots of the food and drinks during the Rasa Timur Photo Shooting with Yik Hoe. I used the natural lighting of the restaurant and only used my Canon 10-22mm to shoot all the food product. I wanted to test the capabilities of the 10-22mm. All photographs were taken without a single shot of flash :D

I kinda like the feeling of using the natural lighting conditions.I wanted to try this but someone ate it all before I could have a try.The nasi lemak and its fragrance were really tempting.In the diffuser box. The lighting effect were not as impressive as using the natural lighting at the restaurant.This was taken with the natural light of the restaurant.Here comes the dessert and drinks. I ate the ice creams, they were too tempting not to have any.I had this too.The orange juice was awesome.This was a little funky but worth the taste :D
I got to 'tapao' this home.The Mojito was something new. Another funky taste drink which I like a lot.

Today my day was packed at Subang Parade. Although I was not the official photographer, I did offered my help doing some charity work for the Children's Wish Society of Malaysia "We Ate for Charity II" event, it is something I can do to help out; well at least in terms of capturing the moments for them. They gladly accepted and gave me a Volunteer sticker to put on.So here are a few images I wish to share. Enjoy :D

YB Hannah Yeoh was also there to show support this cause.The crowd started to build up as more and more people came to have a feast.Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, the president of CWS Malaysia, is give a speech to create awareness and support for this cause. Sadly, I don't think anyone was listening. Most of the people's mind were fixated with the durians; its like there was some kind of 'durian' hypnotic force on the people.Beep! Beep! Here comes the durians.Volunteers packing the mangosteens and rambutans."I just did my shopping at Subang Parade" :D Now is that enough durian?I don't think so, let's add a few more basket.
I wonder how it tasted? It has been too long since my last mangosteen :(Behind the scene volunteers. Working hard to bring down the durians. I would have help out if they gave me a t-shirt :D

There were some folks who actually ask for a REFUND, just because they did not get to have a taste of the durians. Ermm, excuse me to whom ever you are, I donated my RM10 without eating any too. I did not even took the free water given to the volunteers or even had the free T-shirt as volunteer. For heaven sakes, its for a good cause. Its CHARITY.

05.07.2009 - "Capture the Heart of the Experience" Outing

I just got back from Putrajaya. I participated in a local photography competition. It's called "Capture the Heart of the Experience", A Photography Contest by Motor Image Sdn. Bhd. The competition is divided to 3 categories.

Action & Motion (Capture the incredible visuals of movement and actions);
World in Perspective (Literally or figuratively, capture your world in any perspective you want andlet others see through your eyes);
Essence of Subaru (Eternalise anything in photo that you deem possess the essence and quality of Subaru).

Today's session was for the "Essence of Subaru". Motor Image arranged for model Jezamine Lim to model with the Subarus. I did not take much pictures of the model as I have no idea what to take :p I just stood back and watch and learn what the others are doing. On top of that I managed to make some new friends, cheers to that.

I just got to know today that I got prizes for both my photographs which I submitted to enter the "Take a Picture for Conservation" photo competition. You guys can visit Wild Asia too.

Nature Category (1st Runner Up). Yik Hoe's wife, Lee Ping, got the Grand Prize :D which truly deserves it, no doubt about her shot. Wish I can share her photograph here but unfortunately I don't have it.

Actually this morning, I had a meeting with Deborah Chan, the Communication & Business Strategy Manager of Wild Asia Sdn Bhd, to discuss on some collaboration on the CIMB MyCause Competition.

On top of that, I conveniently made myself available to collect my prizes from Wild Asia premises. I was not entirely surprise I won but to win 2 prizes, that was totally unexpected. I thought the other contestants captured better photographs than I did.

I just submitted an application to the BreadTalk: Japan Travel Blog Contest. I came across this contest a few weeks ago but did not have any inspiration to capture myself eating the bread; until today.

At 5.30pm, I made my way to BreadTalk in Sunway Pyramid (situated at LG2 near the ice rink. Just look for McDonald and head towards Marrakesh). Half way walking to Pyramid the whole sky started turning very dark. Oops rain is about to visit Sunway. I paced up my speed.

Upon reaching BreadTalk, I started searching for the buns which had the Japan Travel Blog tag. Unfortunately, I only found one. It was the Harajuku.

The Harajuku was surprisingly nice :D I am not saying this for the sake of saying, its really nice :D Anyway, last night I had the Teriyaki Chicken (which is also one of the special bread); which was even more awesome. 21.06.2009 - "Take a Picture for Conservation" Photo Competition

Today, Yik Hoe, his wife (Lee Ping) and me took some time off from the busy city life and made our way to Kota Damansara Community Forest to show our support to the Tree Party 2009 event organised by Wild Asia.Net. Our main reason there was actually to enter the "Take a Picture for Conservation" photo competition :) There were 2 themes for the competition; Nature and Candid Moments. Well we entered both.

We left Bandar Sunway slightly over 8.20am but unfortunately got held back by a police road block. Apparently at this very morning, there was cycling race in front of us and the police were stopping the traffic on the highway to make way for the cyclists. Well, there goes our breakfast time.
Lucky of us to get a 'police escort' all the way to Damansara. Now I really know how it feels like to have a police escort :D So cool.
Finally, we reach Kota Damansara Community slightly past 9.00am. The place was quite hard to find as the map on the Wild Asia.Net website was not really accurate. Anyway, we were there on time.
We registered and paid our entrance fees. RM30 for a good cause. A small price to pay to help create awareness on the environment.
After registration, I had a little chat with Adrian, of Malaysian Youth Climate Justice Network (MyCJN). Good to hear that more and more youth are getting more aware with the impending situation which we will have to endure in the future if we do not do anything now. Change has to happen and it has to start now. Adrian mentioned about Climate Refugee Camps. Quite an interesting perspective to ponder on. Imagine hundreds of millions of refugees flocking to our country not because of war but because of the menacing environmental changes caused by uncontrolled and unmonitored human activities.
As much as I like to continue the conversation, I had to make my way to start snapping away.

Tree Party 2009 activities. Planting plants and partying? No idea how it will mix, even though I am a conservationist by degree, I have never come across this approach.To some, a hole in a ground is association with death or remorse, in this case, its about giving life and hope.Look our hands are dirty :D Proves that we were working HARD.Pink Doing Green.Shots of kids trekking in the jungle. The trek was not really a tough one, just nice for the kids to have a good dose of environmental education while sweating it out and enjoying the fresh air. It was nice to be with nature again. I miss those days in Danum Valley, Lahad Datu, Sabah. HDR-ed Aunt Lanny's Kitten

This is my first attempt to apply HDR effects on my photographs. I have used a recent photo I took during my visit to Seremban. I used Photomatix Pro 3 to achieve the HDR effects. The program was very easy to use and there are many tutorials out there to help out. All you have to do is Google for it. Below here is the original photograph.
This is the HDR photograph. I just love the blue eyes of this new kitty.Fullview of both the image are recommended to see the difference.

I was playing around with the new 50mm f/1.8 II during my visit to Seremban. Shot a lot of my Aunty Lanny's pet cat. Love the response of the lens, so far its good for me. Nice sharp images :D I just have to adjust from my habits of the 18-200mm to accustoms myself to 50mm.Mum got some local food. Its her fave. I had a few myself.
We had lunch at Yi Poh Loh Shu Fun Restaurant.
And finally close the day with some local Seremban chendol.

07.06.2009 - Samuel's Birthday Dinner at Pantai Seafood Restaurant

It was Samuel's birthday dinner at Pantai Seafood Restaurant. Recommendation by Chee Wing. The food was so-so, not very tasty and their service was Horrid with a capital H. Well this will surely happen when you hire foreign labour to help out.The clams, Thai chicken and Patin fish was good, the rest was just below average.
Present at the dinner was Han Leong and Joyce, Kian Ming, Fung Keat, Chee Wing, Jeffrey, me, Samuel and of course his NEW girlfriend, Denise.
Great time to catch up, especially when everyone is so busy leading their respective lives.
After filling ourselves with seafood, the cake was awaiting us. Thanks to the staffs, our RM70 Secret Recipe cake was half melted.

07.06.2009 - Bio-essence Tanaka White Fair-Y Tale Challenge

Yesterday morning I was at Ikea, Bandar Utama having breakfast with Chee Wing and Jeffrey. We gotten some last minute information that Raymond Lam and Linda Chung will be nearby for an event.
I had to go all the way back home to Bandar Sunway to get my camera and charge it.
Oh ya, the event was called Bio-essence Tanaka White Fair-Y Tale Challenge which was held at 1 Utama, Bandar Utama. Present there was also our very own Malaysian celebrity Sharifah Nor Azean Syed Mahadzir (Scha). She was really cute, from where I was standing, I thought she was a Japanese. Well I guess I was wrong. I was really far from the stage but thanks to the 18-200mm, it was a wonder. Most of the shot was good, it could be better if everyone were not pushing so much or if I was closer.

I decided to part myself from the ever growing crowd of the front stage. I made my way to the back of the stage, awaiting like a predator for his prey, but in this case it was just for a shot, a photo shot. After a long wait, I manage to get 1 feet from Raymond Lam, Linda Chung and Scha but I set the wrong setting for my camera and my shots came out blurred. I was quite disappointed but I was also quite happy to be able to experience this photo shoot. I do hope I will be able to enhance my skills or probably just get an external flash :D

05.06.2009 - 06.06.2009 - 1st International Putrajaya Dragon Boat Festival 2009

This is the compiled shots I made for the 1st Putrajaya International Dragon Boat Race Festival 2009. Dragon boat races are not new to Malaysia but this is the first time it is being held in Putrajaya; where it is very accessible to us enthusiast who never got the chance to go because it was either held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah or in Penang.
I was there 2 days. The 5th and 6th of June 2009. I got a rather nasty sun burn but my mind was not feeling the heat and pain thanks to the depressant effect of the photo shoot.
Overall, I had fun. I do hope I can improve more on my compositions and storytelling. I have a lot to brush up as I have not been actively photographing for over 10 years.The Canon EOS 50D was excellent, however I do wish I had a long range lens to capture. Anyway, do enjoy the photographs.

H1N50D New Home

H1N50D's new home finally came. Aipo AP-38EX is her home's name. The relative humidity percentage in my room is 63%. That is quite high, I guess and its not a good condition for camera and lense. Glad I got her a home where she can be safe and sound; away from fungus. Here are some shots of her home.

On another note, today I have accomplished another feat. I managed to read the whole bloody 50D manual. Made several mental notes but then again, practices make perfect. And that is what I will do.

Aipo AP 38-EX Dry Cabinet + Me

I have made an order for an Aipo AP 38-EX Dry Cabinet. That cost me RM350. Well whether its worth it or not is another question. To me, its an investment to ensure that my equipment are in good condition; most of the time. It would really be a bummer to have my body and lens covered with unwanted fungus.

My room is particularly humid, probably because I am in here most of the time I guess.

The dry cabinet will most likely reach here this Friday.

This is my photography outing to Jurong Bird Park, Singapore. I was there last year with Kian Ming, Samuel Loh and Fung Keat. During this shoot, my gear was a Nikon D70 with Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Autofocus Aspherical Zoom Lens (Sigma AF) borrowed from Yik Hoe. At that time, I did not owned any DSLR.Many of the shots were out of focus as I was unfamiliar with the camera and its settings. However, I did get quite a number of decent shots.

23.05.2009 - Launch of Super GT 2009

My second outing to play with my camera. I did not take much shots of the Super GT queens. I really did not know what purpose should I have the need to shoot them more than 3-4 times.

It was quite amusing to see so many men shooting away like these girls were some sort of celebrity. May be they were, but then again, how would I know :D. I could not careless, there were nothing there worth while for me to shoot. Most of the time I was by the shade.

22.05.2009 - Birds In Captivity Series

During my visit to the KL Bird Park, I finally had the gear to complete a series which had long to do for so long. This series was inspired from another photographer friend of mine, Mr. Sanjit. We were on a photo outing in KL Bird Park a couple of years ago. He mentioned about doing this theme, at that point I got inspired and decided to come up with my very own version.

To be honest, I kind of forgotten about this series until I came back walking the paths of the KL Bird Park. To me, the bird park resembles prison or genocide camp but for birds. Memories flashed back on my visit to the killing fields and camps in Cambodia.

Sad to see them in captivity just for the entertainment of us human. No living being should be denied their freedom. It is so selfish of us humans thinking we are actually helping the animals.

So I just had to complete this series, "Birds In Captivity" since now I am able to express them through my photographs. Thanks to my new gears.

Today I decided to take my new Canon 50D and Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS out to the KL Bird Park to have a test run on her capabilities. Started of a bit jittery as it was my first time using such a hi-end camera. I still have not read all its functions. Anyway, here are some of my shots which I took today. Enjoy.

Rapid KL Bus No. B115 from Kotaraya to Jalan Parlimen;
KL Hop-On-Hop-Off Double Decker Tour Bus Service, disembark at station No. 14 in front of KL Bird Park Main Entrance. Buses available at every 30 to 45 minutes interval;
By KTM Commuter Train, disembark at the KTM Old Railway Kuala Lumpur Station located near the National Mosque;

I just got back from Berjaya Time Square from buying a Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS from a trader I found on Lelong.com.my. Met him in Sushi King and I inspected the lens.

All I can say that it was awesomely new and cheap.

I will be testing it tomorrow.

Lenses Senses

I am sort of having some problem determining which lenses I am going to settle with. I would not want to waste money on wrong choices. Therefore I am kind of stuck trying to figure out, not the best, but the ones that will be best for me at this moment.

I have my mind set on the 18-200mm. I have checked out the Canon and Sigma lenses online but have not tried using them yet.

Possibly I will be getting a 50mm f/1.8 II.
